Students & Teacher Highlighted at Board Meeting At the recent Sumter County Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Marcy Burroughs recognized Livingston Junior High School 3rd and 4th grade Science Olympiad students for their outstanding achievements. The team earned the following awards: 🥈 2nd Place – Measurement and Metrics 🥉 3rd Place – Grasp a Graph 🥉 3rd Place – Map Reading 🥇 1st Place – Pentathlon Students recognized included: Carson Brown, Natalie Coleman, Kenley Wade, Adeja Payne, Erik Hoin, Chloe Hutchins, Jayson Gandy, Isabella Bias, Jada Coats, Harmoni Spencer, Rashad Spencer, Arianna Williams, and Riley Grant. Shoe Drop Success! It was an incredible day for our York West End Junior High and Livingston Junior High School students as they received brand-new, name-brand shoes during our special Shoe Drop event! The excitement in the air was undeniable. Smiles, laughter, and pure joy filled the rooms as students selected their new shoes. For many, this was more than just a new pair of sneakers — it was a confidence boost, a reminder that their community cares, and a moment they will not soon forget. ASU Buzz Tour Brings Energy & Opportunity to Sumter County Sumter Central High School was honored to welcome the Alabama State University Buzz Tour to campus for an exciting and impactful visit! Students enjoyed a high-energy experience that included performances, college and career engagement, and the opportunity to connect directly with ASU representatives. We are especially proud to announce that ASU awarded over $118,000 in scholarship funds to deserving Sumter County students during the visit. These scholarships represent more than financial support — they open doors to future opportunities and continued academic success. Bell-Brown CTC Excels at SkillsUSA District Competition Bell-Brown Career Technical Center students represented Sumter County with excellence at the 2026 SkillsUSA Alabama Central District Competition held at Jefferson State Community College. Competing in a wide range of technical, leadership, and media events, our students demonstrated outstanding skill, professionalism, and workforce readiness. We are proud to announce that the Bell-Brown Quiz Bowl Team earned 2nd Place, securing their spot at the State Leadership and Skills Conference in April.
